An exhibition from the Performing Arts Collection of SA
Discover the roots of nightclubbing and see grandma in a whole new light.
Once upon a time dancing was our national pastime. Every night of the week in the 20s, 30s and 40s, the Bright Young Things of Adelaide could go out and jitterbug their socks off. The Floating Palais, the Palais de Danse, the Embassy Ballroom and the Astoria would bake to the beat of the big bands while even the more intimate places like the Plaza, Blue Grotto and Tuxedo all had a live band and a vocalist. If you've ever wondered what grandma got up to as a girl (or you just want to relive those fabulous, carefree days), come and see this outstanding free exhibition of costumes, instruments, photographs, programs and sheet music along with a collection of memorabilia from the Regent Theatre.
