ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE'S 8TH ANNUAL ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - A SUCCESS ALL ROUND
The 2008 Adelaide Cabaret Festival closed on a high note with a selection of well anticipated performances by American Cabaret star Lorna Luft, the youngest daughter of Judy Garland; acclaimed physical and audio performers The Umbilical Brothers; and Don Walker, one of Australia's best singer-songwriters.
Confirmed favourites of the 2008 Adelaide Cabaret Festival were, West End musical theatre sensation Elena Roger; as well the quirky animated hit from the UK 1927's Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.
South Australia's home grown talents included Vincent's Chair and ETYPEJAZZ with their first ever show of self-penned songs and those gorgeous cowgirls The Three Dolls with their show about love and country music, Freudian Slips.
All those working in the arts and those who attend were gently lampooned in Michael Dalley's hit show Intimate Apparel while Sally Bourne celebrated and satirised the life as a mother and musical theatre performer. Fiona Scott Norman took us through her hilarious collection of vinyl records in The Needle and The Damage Done.
The wildly infectious music of the Balkan Peninsula was brought to life by the exceptional playing of Paprika Balkanicus whilst opera singer Marie Angel told her story of growing up in Pinaroo, South Australia to performing on the world's opera house stages, in Till the Fat Lady Sings -It Ain't Over.
One of the most loved composers of the 20th Century, Henry Mancini, was celebrated in Two For the Road: The Music of Movie Maestro Henry Mancini and the unique siblings that make up The Kransky Sisters performed their new show, Three Bags Full.
The Festival finished up dancing the night away on Saturday 14 June to blues and soul classics by the Hiptones in the Kool Kat Festival Club.
