The Australian Ballet presents
Firebird and other Legends with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra
Myths and legends have always been a feature of ballet. With the debut of the famed Ballet Russes in Paris in 1909, a treasure trove of Eastern European fables and exotica came to the West.
Firebird and other legends is three spellbinding Ballet Russes works programmed to mark the centenary of the company's explosive debut.
The programme includes:
A brand-new interpretation by Graeme Murphy of the iconic
Firebird.
Mikhail Fokine's homage to Romantic ballet
Les Sylphides, a masterpiece replete with ethereal beauty, luminescent sprites and flowing white tutus.
Petrouchka, another great Fokine work returning to The Australian Ballet's stage after a forty-year absence.
All three works are set to magnificent scores by Stravinsky (
Firebird and
Petrouchka) and Chopin (
Les Sylphides) to be performed by the superb Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
Adelaide audiences will be the first to experience this magical evening of sylphs, living dolls and mystical birds.
