Jesus Christ Superstar has proved to be one of the most enduring theatre works of modern times - despite courting ongoing controversy.

These are the last seven days of Jesus' life, as viewed through the eyes of the apostle Judas Iscariot. Judas is alarmed by Jesus' meteoric rise to fame, the blind faith of his followers and even more frightening, their recent view of him as a god. Instead, Judas sees as a deeply flawed human being who is in danger of losing control of the mob - and dooming them to destruction by the Romans.

Created in 1968-69 as a concept album, Jesus Christ Superstar was first staged in 1971. It was one of the first rock operas - created alongside The Who's Tommy, Hair and the now forgotten Your Own Thing.

This new production employs a scintillating and spine-chilling updated score and shamelessly mashes contempory settings and ideas with historical events to create a spectacular rock concert experience.
