View footage of Megan Washington and Paul Grabowsky performing in Spiders and Silkworms at the 2008 Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Their performance in the Dunstan Playhouse on the 4th of September will be as a duo.
Award winning vocalist Megan Washington and Australian jazz luminary Paul Grabowsky return to the Adelaide Festival Centre after their sold out success at the 2008 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
Blessed with a sublime voice and musical maturity beyond her years Brisbane singer/songwriter Megan Washington is becoming a major talent on the Australian music scene.
Having performed with artists such as The Beautiful Girls, Ben Lee, Tim Finn and a series of random collaborations with the likes of Woody Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band, Washington is
a spinner of tales, telling stories that create a world within a world.
Her work crosses a number of styles, from country and folk to more complex song structures reminiscent of Kate Bush. Her influences range from Paul Simon to Billie Holiday; Leonard Cohen to Radiohead.
Multi-award winning, pianist, composer and conductor of international renown, Paul Grabowsky is as inventive as he is eloquent. Founder of the Australian Art Orchestra and Artistic Director of 2010 & 2012 Adelaide Festival, Grabowsky has built a critically acclaimed reputation full of commitment and integrity.
In this performance Washington and Grabowsky will cross the boundaries of contemporary jazz, folk and indie in a collaboration that has been described as the strawberries and cream of the music world.
Her uncommonly beautiful voice has the ability to float from note to note with complete naturalness and her poetic lyrics are filled with striking imagery that will weave between the brilliance of Grabowsky’s masterful keystrokes and inherent musicality.
"It feels like the perfect marriage: Washington's voice and lyrics with Grabowsky's powerfully empathetic compositions." The Age
