Beloved American singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens brings his extraordinary brand of indie folk-pop to Adelaide for the first time.
Renowned for sophisticated musicianship, achingly poignant vocals and epic themes, he mixes autobiography, spiritual fantasy, and regional history to create folk songs of grand proportions.
In his latest releases The Age of Adz and All delighted People, banjos and acoustic guitars give way to drum machines and analogue synthesizers to create an explicit pop-song extravaganza, augmented by rich orchestration. Suffused with lush visual accompaniment, these songs will be performed in multi-layered instrumental glory by Sufjan’s full band including woodwind, brass and choir.
‘Beautiful, delicate and brutal, [he] commanded absolute attention’ The Daily Telegraph
‘a cult figure who happens to be a major artist’ New York Times
