Learn more about his life, legacy, inspiration and international impact
Albert Namatjira’s life story provides a valuable insight, not only into Australia’s history, but into our modern-day relations with Indigenous people. At the height of his international fame, his artworks sold out within minutes. Albert’s beautiful paintings introduced the lounge rooms of Australian suburbia to the exquisite beauty of our central desert heartland. The rich watercolours of Namatjira’s story are transformed into a monumentous theatrical event, and have brought audiences to their feet night after night around Australia. With the inimitable Trevor Jamieson as Albert Namatjira, this energetic celebration of a life fully lived also features third-generation artists from Namatjira’s hermannsburg community, creating expansive drawings live. Accompanied by an original score by Genevieve Lacey.
“…a terrific mixture of narration, dance, mime and voice that is extraordinarily theatrical, articulate and expressive.” - The Australian
