Who are the real heroes of the sky? The God’s, the Superheroes, or the fighter planes?

Superheroes, is Stone/Castro’s latest contemporary theatre work and a provocative reflection on the complexity of Globalization, on masculinity, the future, violence, and war.

In an unknown rest home meet six characters, re-gaining strength to return to their lives the way they were. Isolated from the outside world in crisis, their diverse identities begin to contaminate and dominate their new territory.

As fiction and reality are blurred we are privy to the madness of violence and trauma of war. They turn to Saviors and heroes for hope and salvation. Faith and Drugs for escape and shelter.

With differing opinions on philosophy, religion, politics, heroism and war a battle is on to determine how best to dominate and steer humanity into the next generation. Violence and Harmony. Nationalism and Globalization. Christianity and Islam, Fiction and Reality, Nietzsche and God, Savior and Sacrificed.

Superheroes is a reflection on war and a surreal and vivid exploration of man’s vision for the domination of earth.

Since forming Stone/Castro in 2002, Jo Stone and Paulo Castro have been commissioned to direct, create and self-devise contemporary theatre pieces for many Australian and European companies and have toured extensively overseas. Jo and Paulo have previously worked with Company Les Ballet C de La B, Portuguese National Theatré, Chunky Move and the Schaubuhne-Berlin.
