The reaction new viewers have to Emma Hack’s work is usually one of complete amazement. Drawn in by the exquisite designs and striking representations of animals, it is not long before they realise “there’s a person in there!” and the questions begin. How does she do it? Surely it’s superimposed? How long does it take? Does the model really have the stand there the whole time?
For her most recent collection, Mandala, Emma Hack has painstakingly camouflaged the human form into hand painted mandala designs. Native Mandala offers a utopian view of the essence of Australia in these stunning depictions of native wildlife; mammals, birds and reptiles appear to leap from the luscious native floral setting, seeming to overtake the presence of humans.
Exotic Mandala captures the beauty of art nouveau inspired designs with butterflies placed on the models. Wallpaper Mandala, combines wallpaper designs in a collage background into which her muse is artfully blended.
Emma Hack is represented by Gallery 139, 139 Magill Road, Stepney.
