In Mr. Guettel’s own words: “I disappeared in 2007. Into the studio. Into five new shows: a fairy tale adventure, an invisible man, a love story, a thing about wanting to be good called Millions and an opera for the devil.”
Under the Musical Direction of Kim Grigsby and with the incomparable singer Haley Bond at his side, he will sing from these new shows. He will also perform music from his shows Light In The Piazza, for which he won two Tony Awards, Myths and Hymns and Floyd Collins.
“Haley will sing from the old shows, since that material is way too high for me now. I’m thrilled to try out new songs at The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, joined by two brilliant musicians. I hope I’ll see you in June. I’m so looking forward.”

**If you are a singer and would like the special priviledge of being mentored by Adam, then check out the following for a strictly limited opportunity for only $10 (if you buy a GR priced ticket to his show)…more details here.

Urban-utan has hit the streets and emerging young film makers are attempting to creatively encapsulate the essence of Urban-utan in their short films being screened at Mercury Cinema on Tuesday 17 September, 6pm, hosted by Adelaide Festival Centre’s GreenRoom and the Media Resource Centre as part of the highly successful OzAsia Festival.

The film makers will explore the contrast between old and new Malaysia and Australian culture, referencing both a Malaysian tradition and modern street culture. This ties in nicely with the theme of this year’s OzAsia Festival which will shine a light on the Malaysian art scene.

Celebrate Adelaide’s awesome film talent by showing your support and coming along to the Screening Night of Urban-utan Short Film Competition. You even get to help decide the winner of the ‘People’s Choice’ Award by voting for your favorite on the night! There will also be Malaysian nibbles to get you in the mood.

A woman stands at a cliff, grasping a lock of her lover’s hair and wails at the sun as it slips beneath the ocean.

Here are the songs that remember these hitherto unsung heroes, the violence and tenderness they shared in, the calamity that befell them, and the oil rig they called home. A boisterous new cabaret adventure featuring original music and invoking traditional sea shanties and siren songs.

Created by Cameron Goodall, Quincy Grant and Andy Packer.

Mojo Juju’s world is filled with shady characters, seedy juke joints, all night diners and sad luck dames.

An original collection of songs based around vice and consequence. They are songs about recklessness and regret, love and lust, infidelity, death, trains, cars and bad, bad hangovers. Mojo and her band will perform these songs from her latest album, along with brand new material, presented like you’ve never seen before and as though it was always meant to be.

Inspired by pulp fiction & noir cinema of the 1940’s, Mojo will also tell tales and anecdotes of the stories behind the songs, the details between the cracks and the things that may or may not have happened, all the while illuminating a shadowy underworld of dodgy deals, close calls & near misses.

It’s Chandler’s LA, it’s Chester Himes’ Harlem, it’s Waits & Bukowski in a bar trading secrets. It’s Mojo Juju’s ‘Pony Takes A Powder’ – A collection of hard-boiled, wisecracking short fictions & tall tales.

RRAMP

the Collector, the Archivist & the Electrocrat

SELECTIONS – COLLECTIONS – RECOLLECTIONS

… SHARP AS ICE AND BITTERSWEET

The lady is a collector. She lives in her big house. She brings home the things she likes. She wanted to have a band. She saw them and decided they were it. The band is RRAMP.

RRAMP is an electronica dance metal rock set reflecting on unexpected and compelling stories of archives, collections, pets, childhood imaginings and human frailty, accompanied by charming and exquisitely simple stop start animations.

The Collector lives with the precious objects and curious memories that she stores in jars in the rooms of her cavernous house. Christine Johnston is the Collector… She has procured two unsuspecting members to join her band… Lisa O’Neill, the dancing Archivist, her much shorter PA, ever willing to be of assistance but off on her own curious bends; and Peter

Nelson, the Electrocrat… building the musical score behind his bank of sound technology and instruments, both help the Collector live her dream… while lending a listening ear to her stories, her musical saw and heavy metal guitar.

The collaborating artists at the helm of RRAMP HOUSE (Johnston, O’Neill and Nelson) have worked together for the past decade in devising and performing multi-artform performance works across numerous mediums including music, dance, theatre, contemporary performance, comedy and new media.

By John Doyle

The Big Bang created a future from nothing. For the esteemed Professor of Physics Vere, the future is nothing.

One minute he is trading witty anecdotes with his colleagues and students and about to take up a job with the CERN Laboratory in Switzerland. The next, he receives a shattering diagnosis and learns that everything he knows will all too soon slip away.

Just what is faith to different people? To some, it’s knowing that there is a God. To others, it’s knowing the architecture of the cosmos. And to Vere, it’s knowing that, at the end of it all, his wife Holly is out there waiting for him. Somewhere.

As rich, full-bodied and cheeky as a Grange, this witty, moving and ultimately uplifting world premiere play by John Doyle (ABC’s Changi, Two Men & A Tinnie, Roy and HG) will take you on an exhilarating ride through history, maths, physics, religion, archaeology and astronomy: and bring you back to a meolitation on family, spirituality and human frailty.

Swan Lake, the world’s most beloved ballet, returns to its roots in a new, traditional production by The Australian Ballet.

Commissioned especially for the company’s 50th anniversary, it has everything a good Swan Lake should – a troubled prince, an enchanted swan, a malevolent magician and doomed love.

Choreographer Stephen Baynes is renowned for his intense musicality and classical purity. Together with designer Hugh Colman, he’s created a ballet of unprecedented magnificence at the Festival Theatre.

Following 2012′s Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake promises to be another sell-out for The Australian Ballet.

**SHOW CANCELLED**

Artistic Director Kate Ceberano says “We were very excited to have Dan in the Cabaret Festival program this year as he’s an amazing talent. Fortunately for him yet unfortunately for us, this talent has led to him be cast in the West End production of Les Miserables to play the lead of Jean Valjean once a week with a view to play this role more regularly in the future. Rehearsals for the production commence in May and his Opening Night will be a direct clash with his scheduled performances at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. It’s an incredible opportunity for Dan and we’re very proud of his achievement as it will take his career to another level – not bad for a local boy from Gawler!”
