Conductor: Benjamin Northey.
Internationally acclaimed guitarist Slava Grigoryan and brother Leonard turn their talent to the eloquent and highly expressive repertoire of the 18th Century including works by Vivaldi, Handel, Weiss and Fasch. This concert will feature guitar concertos and double concertos from the Baroque era.
Originally composed for the fragile tones of the lute and mandolin, the music blossoms into new beauty with the rich timbres of the modern guitar and accompanied by the renowned world class Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
"In this Baroque repertoire I'm basically breaking every rule as soon as I start, simply by playing guitar. When playing Baroque repertoire, 90 per cent of the time you're just using a free stroke technique more akin to what you'd do on the lute. Everything's played quite differently from more traditional and contemporary repertoire for guitar. It's great fun to play, and very beautiful music." Slava Grigoryan
