Moon Lantern Festival
Adelaide Festival Centre's OzAsia FestivalOpening OzAsia Festival 09
Free Family Event
Gather your family and friends and admire the beauty of the moon at its fullest and brightest on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month of the Chinese calendar.
Traditionally, families and friends across Asia gather to celebrate the mid-autumn harvest moon and eat moon cakes together.
In Adelaide, the event includes a special performance by Shandong Laizhou Martial Arts School, from China's Shandong Province (sister province of South Australia), whose students featured in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Local Asian community groups will also present traditional and contemporary music and dance performances.
Enjoy delicious Asian food, an array of market stalls offering lanterns, crafts and horoscope readings plus workshops and much more!
At twilight the Moon Lantern Parade will light up Elder Park followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
Hosted by Annette Shun Wah (writer, performer and broadcaster).
