At the peak of their powers, this rebel alliance of dance superstars smashes conventions and creates inventions that show us what dance might become. Sylvie Guillem: the prima ballerina of our age and ex-etoile with the Paris Opera Ballet. Akram Khan MBE: one of the most gifted choreographers and dancers of his generation. In the 19th century, the French dubbed such luminaries (like Sarah Bernhardt) 'les monstres sacres': sacred monsters. But there is irony in the title. Set to live music by a five-member ensemble, in Sacred Monsters Guillem and Khan have turned on their classical roots to create a pas de deux unlike anything you've witnessed before, a new language of classical ballet and the Kathak Indian dance style. West and East, male and female, yin and yang. For 75 minutes, the dancers never leave the stage, trading solo riffs, exchanging confessions, baring their souls and finally melding into an exquisite hybrid vision of dance and humanity as one. Guillem performs feats of lithesome fluidity; Khan whirls and chops with speed, precision and power. Little wonder this fresh and inspirational work drew rave reviews and standing ovations in London, LA and Hong Kong. Sacred Monsters promises to provide Adelaide audiences with perhaps their only opportunity ever, to see these two legends of the international stage together in one astonishing evening. "A five-star display of speed, precision and power." The Guardian "Sacred Monsters unites two ravishingly beautiful movers from opposing classical disciplines - ballet and kathak - and takes them to amazing places neither has gone before. An extraordinary meeting of minds and bodies."The Times (UK)

After sell-out shows in 2007, the Chinese Spectacular returns to Australia in 2008 with more shows and a dazzling new program that will transport audiences to a land of beauty and enchantment, leaving them uplifted and inspired. Divine Performing Arts' performances are reviving the long-lost treasures of China with unprecedented success and a phenomenal growth with 220 shows in over 65 cities across the globe in 2008. The Chinese Spectacular combines ancient technique with modern technology. Involving dozens of talented dancers and masterful choreography, gorgeous costumes, and custom-designed digital backdrops, these pieces of artistry delight the senses, touch the heart, and move the soul. China was once known as "Shen Zhou" or "Land of the Divine", as people once believed Chinese culture to be a gift from the heavens. Virtue and piety were emphasised in daily life. Sadly, though, over time much of this great culture has been lost. Until now... Please note - children's ages are 4-15 years. NO ADMISSION to children 3 years & under

This electrifying triple bill recognises the remarkable influence that the Ballets Russes had in those heady Parisian days and beyond. Featuring two masterpieces from ballet legends alongside a new work from one of today's leading international choreographers, all three works are set to magnificent scores, performed by the superb Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. 1. BALLET IMPERIAL Ballet legend George Balanchine defected from Russia to join the Ballets Russes in Paris, and it was here that he honed his dancing and then his choreographic craft. Later, when established in the US as a choreographic genius, Balanchine created his homage to the glory days of Russian Imperial ballet, Ballet Imperial. The technically demanding Ballet Imperial, set to Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2, has all the regal splendour of Russian classicism, but with Balanchine's trade mark contemporary, athletic edge. Choreography George Balanchine Music Piotr Llyich Tchaikovsky Costume design Hugh Colman 2. AFTERNOON OF A FAUN Like the Ballets Russes, Robbins' choreographic influence stretched across decades and art forms. In Afternoon of a Faun Robbins plays with the concepts of theatricality. Audiences observe two dance students as they observe themselves in an invisible mirror. Well aware of their youth and beauty, the dancers - one male, one female - stretch, practice and flirt with languor. Set to French composer Claude Debussy's dreamy L'apres-midi d'un Faune. Choreography Jerome Robbins Music Claude DeBussy Sat design Jean Rosenthal Costume design Irene Sharaff 3. SYMPHONIE FANTASTIQUE Acclaimed Polish choreographer Krzysztof Pastor has created an entirely new work to Hector Berlioz's 1832 score Symphonie Fantastique. Leonide Massine had also set a ballet to this score in the 1930s, which he based closely on Berlioz's imagined scenario for the music: a gothic tale of romantic obsession, opium, death and black magic. Pastor, and his design partner, Tatyana van Walsum, have streamlined the story and arrived at a more abstract, though still dramatic, work. Choreography Krzysztof Pastor Music Hector Berlioz Set & costume design Tatyana van Walsum "...It is probably one of the coolest ballets ever made." The Australian "...one of the one-act classical gems..." The Sun "...drop dead glamorous..." The Australian For more information visit http://www.australianballet.com.au/

Impulse is an exhilarating new collaborative production between two of South Australia's most acclaimed artistic groups celebrating the unique and often unpredictable relationship that exists between music and dance. Featuring the innovative string ensemble Zephyr Quartet and award?winning contemporary dance company Leigh Warren & Dancers, Impulse draws its inspiration from the creative force that music lends to the dancer - freeing them of inhibition and often directing their very movements. Set to a sumptuous score that leaps from the joyous tones of SA composer Graeme Koehne's Shaker Dances which explores the denial of physical intimacy that inspired the ecstatic dances of the American Shakers to the witty and sensual strains of Michael Nyman's Second Quartet. Impulse promises to be something special.
