Presented by State Theatre Company of South Australia in association with Adelaide Festival Centre’s iNSPACE program "She comes down one night and tells her mum and dad she wants to be a terrorist." Imagine you're trying to speak to a woman called Anne. You leave messages on her machine, but in vain. It's as if she's disappeared. Where? With whom? To do what? Who else is leaving her messages? Is she alive or dead? Is she Anne, Annie, or Anya? The more unreachable she is, the more you wonder who she really is. If she could disappear so inexplicably, then perhaps she's not the person you thought she was. You begin to fantasise. She's with a casual lover in a foreign hotel. She's a terrorist on the run. She's a psychotic artist turning her attempted suicide into an artwork. She's the wife of a right-wing anarchist maniac. She's a luxury sports car. The "attempts on her life" are attempts to define her life. "A theatrical experience of disorienting power." - The Independent This production contains frequent coarse language.

Inspired by one of the world’s greatest quests – the Grail legend – this utterly contemporary story celebrates thepossibilities of redemption and will resonate with young and old audiences alike. Times are hard when you’re living on a drought-ridden farm. Helly’s family is struggling, and they face losing the centre of their world: their farm. As Helly sets out to find her family’s saviour, she discovers her knight in shining armour isn’t who she thought it would be. As Helly comes to realise her true potential, there is much fantasy, pathos and humour. An Australian fable about an ordinary family and the realisation that the answer sometimes lies within.

The Count is seeking the favours of Susanna who is to be wed to her love, Figaro, the Count's valet. When the Count detects the interest of the young page, Cherubino, in the Countess, he tries to get rid of Cherubino by giving him an officer's commission in his own regiment. Figaro, Susanna, and the Countess conspire to embarrass the Count and expose his infidelity. Meanwhile Figaro is caught up in a dispute with Bartolo and Marcellina, which ends when he is revealed to be their son. At night, all find themselves in the palace grounds, where a comic series of mistaken identities results in the Count's humiliation and then forgiveness by the Countess. Mozart's miraculous The Marriage of Figaro has justly been described as a near perfect opera, a brilliant blending of words and music. Neil Armfield's sensual and spirited award winning production of one of opera's greatest classics is beautifully realised in a comedy of manners, love, politics and class.

MY MOTHER INDIA (PG) Director: Safina Uberoi Australia 2001 52mins Safina has an Indian father who collects kitsch calendars, an Australian mother who hangs her knickers out to dry in front of the horrified neighbours, a self-styled Guru grandfather and a fiercely man-hating grandmother.
SOUNDSTREAM CONTEMPORARY MUSIC ENSEMBLE A MUSICAL VOYAGE FROM QUIET MEDITATION TO ECSTATIC ELATIONArtistic Director of Soundstream Contemporary Music Ensemble, Gabriella Smart has fashioned an evening of new classical music that is poised between the ancient traditions of Asia and the West. Acclaimed Australian composers Peter Sculthorpe, Ann Boyd, Ross Edwards and Barry Conyngham have long been inspired by the music of Asia even when the influence of Asian culture was considered unusual. Asian cultural influences are now much more prevalent in contemporary Australian culture and a younger generation of composers including Julian Yu and Anne Norman are strongly bound by their Asian perceptions.
Opera Australia's Oz Opera is proud to announce a new production of one of the world's favourite operas, Madame Butterfly, directed by one of Australia's most influential actors and directors, John Bell. Puccini's moving tale is set in 1946 in the historic city of Nagasaki. Cio-Cio San, a fifteen year old Geisha girl, is married off to Pinkerton, a lieutenant in the victorious American navy. They fall in love, instantly, but when it is time for Pinkerton to go back home, he discards his fragile Butterfly. And so, caught between two worlds, the old and the new, Madame Butterfly waits. One fine day, she knows, he will return... John Bell explores the work's finely drawn characters against the backdrop of post-war Japan - a visually spectacular clash of traditional geisha designs and modern Western dress - coloured further by Puccini's magnificent score, performed by the Oz Opera company and an 11-piece orchestra. Sung in English Performed with chamber orchestra Director John Bell Set & Costume Designer Jennie Tate Lighting Designer Matt Scott English Translation Peter Hutchinson Conductor Simon Kenway & Christopher van Tuinen

The anarchic comedy of The Goon Show has had generations splitting their sides since its creation in 1951. Roy Smiles’ brilliant new play hilariously invokes the madcap spirit of The Goons but also takes us on a darker journey into the fevered mind of the great comic genius Spike Milligan. Ying Tong shows Spike grappling with his demons while being exhorted by the ambitious Peter Sellars to crank out one more series. As reality and the surreal world of The Goons collide, the play morphs into a pastiche Goon Show including Harry Secombe and announcer Wallace Greenslade, where you will meet all the favourite characters including Eccles, Bluebottle, Bloodnok and Count Moriarty et al. “Agonisingly funny... Ying Tong proves both hilarious and deeply moving and in the theatre you can’t ask for much more than that.” Telegraph UK
