SHANNON NOLL TURNS IT UP WITH HIS BIGGEST TOUR IN TWO YEARS. Shannon Noll is going back on the road with the TURN IT UP Tour, his first major national run in two years. The 17-date tour, which features support act Small Mercies, starts shortly after the release of "Everybody Needs A Little Help", the third single off his current platinum selling album, Turn It Up. Following his successful trip to the USA where he was the New York ambassador for G'Day USA: Australia Week, the multi-platinum selling singer can't wait to hit the road and get back to his fans, making stops at cities in more than half the Australian territories. His June/July run is the first of a two-leg tour, with the second run planned for September/October. Like he did with Lift, one of his most popular and successful hits, Shannon once again sends spirits soaring with his poignant lyrics and raw honesty on "Everybody Needs A Little Help." "I wanted to get the edge that Lift had back in there, to say no matter what you're going through, it's OK. You don't have to do it alone," says Shannon. Turn It Up, his third and current album, debuted at #3 on the ARIA albums chart. It has already produced one top 10 success with Loud, giving the boy from Condoblin a record-setting total of 10 consecutive top ten singles, including five #1s on the ARIA singles chart. Add his four ARIA award nominations and it's clear that in just a few short years the three-time running AVMA Best Male Artist has become one of Australia's most successful, iconic and best-loved performers. Doors Open: 7.30pm, Small Mercies: 8.00 - 9.00pm, Interval: 9.00 - 9.30pm, Shannon Noll: 9.30 - 10.30

A Night in Budapest and Vienna HEARTFELT GYPSY MUSIC AT ITS BEST. "Szalai is everything a Gypsy violinist should be, playing with swooning ardour and gorgeous tone. But the joy is in the total experience. This is a must-see event, whatever your musical tastes. There is nothing like it in Australia!" - Sydney Morning Herald, 24th July 2007 Antal Szalai is considered the best gypsy violin soloist in the world and the recipient of the coveted "Ferenc Liszt Award" in 2005. Antal Szalai comes from a family of gypsy musicians. He studied the violin at the Bela Bartok Conservatory of Music in Hungary, and then in 1967 joined the Honved Ensemble, a musical organisation which comprises a symphonic orchestra, a folk dance troupe, a choir and a gypsy orchestra. The ensemble was supported by the Hungarian Government and the Hungarian National Army. He became leader of the Hungarian Gypsy Orchestra in 1969. Antal Szalai explains the origins of the gypsy band: "Gypsy songs began with primitive rhythms, created by the knocking of spoons on water cans and accompaniment. About 300 years ago, the tradition of the gypsy band started and the band then comprised a violin, a viola, a cello and a cimbalom". They will be playing the type of music created in the 19th century by amateur composers drawn to sweeten their native folk-music with Western harmonies in order to suit contemporary taste. The Gypsy way of making music is best explained by Antal Szalai: "The gypsies are very temperamental people......and gypsy music comes from the heart. There is a lot of feeling and it is romantic. Also, they play with a different sort of rhythm that is more interesting". Come and hear the evergreen traditional Hungarian and International Gypsy melodies as well as some of the most popular highlights from the world of operetta.

Gustav Mahler once proclaimed that a symphony must embrace the world and never was the composer truer to his own dictum than in his monumental Third Symphony. From the ominous primeval rumblings of the introduction, to the sublime, heavenly finale, Mahler traverses all creation in six movements, ranging from elemental power to charming whimsy. This is the premiere performance of Mahler's Third in Adelaide, a showcase for the ASO's exhilarating relationship with its Chief Conductor. Ning Liang is one of the brightest mezzo-sopranos on the current opera scene having performed in many European festivals and in opera houses around the world.
Lenny Henry - Where You From?

Fresh from a sell-out UK season, multi-talented comedian Lenny Henry returns to Australia in July for a national tour with his new show, Where You From?. Where You From? brings together the very best of Lenny Henry. It's an electrifying mix of stand-up, music, character comedy, and unexpected pathos, all wrapped in his warm comic take on our world. A cult star on television and one of Britain's best-known and loved personalities, Lenny has toured Australia four times - each sold out - and since his last tour in 2004 he has continued to delight and entertain audiences around the world with roles in film, TV and documentaries, including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, MirrorMask, LennyHenry.TV and Lenny's Britain. But live performance reveals the true genius of Lenny Henry. And Australian audiences will see him over a three week tour in all capital cities. "His talent seems limitless. He is a comedian, impressionist, singer and serious actor. His appeal is classless and ageless. He is as popular with the over 60s as with the under 20s. He seems incapable of giving offence. Even in today's racially sensitive Britain, he can make sharp comments about police harassment of blacks and get away with it. Six foot two of baggy-suited sunshine and good humour. There is apparently no-one immune to his charm." Daily Telegraph, London "Remarkable and exhilarating observational comedy" Financial Times, London "Brilliant...a stunning breakthrough for stand up comedy" Daily Mail, London

Princess Turandot is a woman without mercy. She challenges all her suitors to answer three impossible riddles, and punishes failure with death. So when the noble Calaf takes up the challenge and answers all three riddles correctly, he discovers he's not just putting his love, but also his life, on the line. Graeme Murphy's celebrated production returns to Adelaide in a glittering panoply of operatic proportions, full of colour and movement and studded with wry observations that bring all the archetypal characters to life. And then there's the transformative power and beauty of Puccini's magnificent music. Liu's moving aria 'Signora, ascolta', Turandot's chilling 'In questa reggia' and then memorable 'Nessun dorma' will melt the hardest of hearts.

This Paris-based band offers rhythmic and emotional tunes that take the listener into a dizzying vortex of Central European sounds and images. Considered and complex yet wild and occasionally raucous, Les Yeux Noirs French for "The Black Eyes" takes their name from the title of a Russian gypsy tune made famous by Django Reinhardt in the '30s. It's the perfect name for a French group that plays their own variety and melding of Gypsy and Yiddish music, with a nod to Manouche (or French Gypsy) jazz. Theirs is a sound that ignores the divisions of political maps, sneaks past border patrols and extends the hand of fraternity right across Central and Eastern Europe. Equal parts gypsy and klezmer (with plenty of jazzy flourishes to boot), the band draws on music from right across the region, from Hungary down to Armenia. At the heart of the band is the twin fiddles of brothers Eric and Olivier Slabiak. Both classically trained violinists, they grew up in France immersed in the Jewish tradition, and founded the band in 1992 to explore the common ground their own culture's music shares with that of the Gypsies. Blending funky gypsy undertones with old-school Eastern European folk, jazz and classical influences Les Yeux Noirs delivers an eclectic and electric mixture of traditional, modern and old-school tunes with-in a modern context that's brilliant and refreshing. It's an exhilarating, winding journey, most often conducted at pedal-to-the-metal, breakneck speed. Fans of Taraf de Haidouks or Nigel Kennedys' work with the Polish band Kroke are well-advised to get on board.
