Visual Art plays a significant role in the cultural life showcased by the Adelaide Festival Centre. Since the Festival Centre’s opening 40 years ago, the Visual Arts Department has established and maintained a works of art collection of both national and international significance and offers a diverse program of curated exhibitions across the Festival Centre throughout the year.
The Adelaide Festival Centre Works of Arts Collection was founded in the 1970s, and today boasts an impressive public works of art of an international calibre. Many of these works are on public display around the Adelaide Festival Centre grounds and within the foyers of the Festival Theatre and Dunstan Playhouse.
1973: Signifying Change
At the time of the Adelaide Festival Centre’s opening in 1973, artists were pushing boundaries of conventional art practice.
