Producers Howard Panter, John Frost and GWB Entertainment today announced that local radio and stage star Peter Goers will play the Narrator in Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show at selected performances during the Adelaide season.
Since 2004 Goers has hosted the very popular Evening Show on ABC Radio Adelaide and has been honoured with over 12 awards for the show including twice Broadcaster of the Year. He has written a weekly column for the Sunday Mail for 26 years, and in 2013 co-hosted the live concert and broadcast of the centenary of Her Majesty’s Theatre. A Fringe Award winner, his recent one-man Fringe shows are Somebody Has To Be Peter Goers, Actors, Drunks And Babies Never Hurt Themselves, Smoked Ham and the forthcoming Hard Rubbish.
Leading the cast of the world’s favourite rock and roll musical will be television and theatre star Craig McLachlan, donning Frank N Furter’s legendary fishnet stockings in his Helpmann Award-winning role. Joining Craig will be Kristian Lavercombe as Riff Raff, musical theatre favourites Amanda Harrison as Magenta, Nadia Komazec as Columbia and Brendan Irving as Rocky, alongside Adam Rennie as Eddie and Dr Scott. Playing the roles of Brad and Janet are Rob Mallett and Michelle Smitheram, while the ensemble cast includes Bianca Baykara, Ross Chisari, Hollie James, Hayley Martin, Stephen McDowell and Geoffrey Winter. Stage and screen leading man Cameron Daddo will play the role of the Narrator at most performances.
“Peter is going to be a wonderful guest Narrator,” said the producers. “His acerbic wit and stage presence are perfect for this character role, which in the past has been played by performers as diverse as Red Symonds, Gretel Killeen, Bert Newton and Richard O’Brien himself, while Jack Nicholson and Danny Devito played the Narrator in the 35th Anniversary production. With Craig leading this wonderfully talented group of performers, this is sure to be a wild ride every night - theatregoers should give themselves over to absolute pleasure before madness takes its toll!”
“STILL THE FUNNIEST AND SEXIEST SHOW AROUND” - London Evening Standard
The Rocky Horror Show is a true classic and one of theatre’s most endearing and outrageously fun shows. It opened at London’s Royal Court Theatre on June 19, 1973, quickly developing a cult following, and was adapted into the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which has the longest- running release in film history. This iconic brand holds a unique place in theatre history, a show which has defied the decades and continued to grow in popularity.
The Rocky Horror Show is currently playing in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Argentina, Romania and Slovenia, and about to open in Belgium, Tokyo and other cities in Japan. It has recently closed in Korea and Brazil, and in 2018 will open in Israel, Canada, Iceland and the UK. Millions of people all over the world have and continue to see productions of The Rocky Horror Show and sing along to classics like Sweet Transvestite, Dammit Janet, I Can Make You A Man, Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me, Over At The Frankenstein Place and of course, The Time Warp.
The 2018 Australian tour of The Rocky Horror Show will re-open the refurbished Festival Theatre at Adelaide Festival Centre from 28 December 2017, then play at QPAC, Brisbane from 18 January, the Crown Theatre, Perth from 17 February, and Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre from 13 July.
So give yourself over to absolute pleasure, and let’s do the Time Warp again.
