Adelaide is home to countless independent musicians, an entrepreneurial music industry that’s growing by the day, and a plethora of live music venues. The city is admired for its world-class music and arts festivals, leading music education and performance institutions. Adelaide is Australia’s first, and only, UNESCO City of Music designated in 2015 by UNESCO and now joins a network of 295 cities globally including 59 Cities of Music. This prestigious UNESCO title was granted in recognition of the quality, diversity and commitment to music and creativity in this city over many decades. It acknowledges the city’s intentions and attitude as displayed by its leadership, as well as the central role of music in its history and culture. Adelaide is a city with music as its heartbeat.
