Catherine Marjorie Fitz Gerald 50 Concert 2048x1049

As mother and daughter, Marjorie Fitz-Gerald OAM and Catherine Fitz-Gerald share a passion for the arts and a deep desire to give back to the community.

Marjorie’s lifelong dedication to theatre has not only shaped her life, but also inspired her commitment to building a thriving arts community in South Australia. She believes in the enduring importance of philanthropy as a means to sustain the arts. In her words, “bequests are a way of donating without stress or hardship.”

While serving on the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation Board, Marjorie introduced the idea of a bequest program, so choosing Adelaide Festival Centre as a beneficiary was natural decision. She hopes her bequest will enable youth to experience the magic of theatre, just as she did.

The theatre changed my life as a child of 13 and I want to make sure that other children can have the opportunity to experience that same wonder.

— Marjorie Fitz-Gerald OAM

Catherine is equally committed to leaving a lasting impact on her community. Her decision to include Adelaide Festival Centre was inspired by her rich history with the centre, from performing on its stage as a child to experiencing the wonders of theatre, opera, and dance.

“I have chosen organisations that have enriched my life over the years.” Catherine explains, emphasising the importance of giving back to the community, a family philosophy passed down through generations.

Both Marjorie and Catherine have chosen not to specify a particular area of support in their bequests, allowing Adelaide Festival Centre the freedom to allocate funds where they’re most needed. Their vision is clear: to ensure the survival and thriving of an institution that has brought them so much joy and enlightenment.

In their own words, their bequests aim to encourage future generations to embrace Adelaide Festival Centre as a cultural hub for everyone, young and old.

The Encore Bequest Program brings together a special community of donors who have chosen to leave a gift in their Will to Adelaide Festival Centre.
