Here at inSPACE, we managed to complete two residencies before the big festivals captured our hearts and minds. So far, so amazing.
We kicked off the year with Sarah Wilson's Paper Trails, drawing a packed room. The exploration delved into the paper trail that accompanies a person's life. This initial development focused on envisioning the narrative and exploring costume mechanics.
I see this work as a beautiful way to pay homage to the pasts of the creators, their hope and aspirations for the future, and the connection we have to our lineage. We sometimes feel alone; as if we are built from nothing, and there is an urge to remove all the parts of us and start from scratch; but this isn’t true....We can't start from scratch, our memories are too wholly engrained in our being.
Following this, we participated in the inSPACE x DreamBIG collaborative residency, which began with Evelyn but has now evolved into Planet Stella by Zoë + Tim.
Our next public showing will be for Maintain, Rest, Value by Ade Suharto and Alison Currie. This work will see the artists respond to a collection of a sites (room, building, park) and people’s connected life work (interviews, photographs, and/or public artwork), together with their own dance practice.
