International Jazz Day
Presented by Adelaide Festival Centre
Adelaide UNESCO City of Music and Adelaide Festival Centre celebrate International Jazz Day with a special evening showcasing some of Australia’s finest jazz performers lovingly curated by Adelaide’s Ross McHenry and Mark Simeon Ferguson.
Join composer/arranger/pianist (and new Head of Jazz at the Elder Conservatorium) Mark Simeon Ferguson as he celebrates the songs of female composers and writers who have helped shape the sound of Jazz. Mark will be accompanied by the young and uber-talented acoustic bassist Bonnie Aué, celebrated jazz drummer Josh Baldwin and the recently returned star of the UK jazz scene Anita Wardell. Anita is a renowned vocalist and winner of the prestigious BBC Jazz Award in the ‘Best of Jazz’ category in 2006 and a British Jazz award for Best Vocalist in 2013.
Award winning bassist & composer Ross McHenry presents a unique set of original trio & quartet music. Accompanied by current PBS young elder of Jazz, pianist Brenton Foster, the inimitable saxophonist Adam Page and Adelaide drummer Josh Baldwin. Performing works from Ross’ critically acclaimed release The Outsiders and new works set for premiere at International Jazz Day 2018, this performance is not to be missed.
Our friends at COMA (Creative Original Music Adelaide) will also be presenting preshow and interval entertainment in the Space foyer from 5.30pm featuring Alex Taylor (Trombone), Sam Cagney (Guitar) and Lyndon Gray (Double Bass).
Come straight from work and join us for a drink and a bite to eat from 5:30pm with bars and Moorish Bites food truck at the Dunstan Playhouse Riverdeck.
