The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, Act III
By Richard Wagner
Presented by State Opera SA
State Opera celebrates 20 years since its first production of Wagner's Ring Cycle with a special concert performance.
The third act of 'The Mastersingers of Nuremberg’ is the famed singing contest, where the ardent young Walther guided by the wise cobbler Hans Sachs, competes for the hand of the beautiful Eva. Not even his vengeful rival Beckmesser can stand in the way of his ultimate triumph.
The concert features some of Australia’s finest opera voices and marks the welcome return to South Australia of Kate Ladner as Eva, Bradley Daley as Walther, Shane Lowrencev as Hans Sachs and acclaimed British Wagner specialist Andrew Shore as Beckmesser. Nicholas Braithwaite leads the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and a State Opera Chorus of over 60 voices.
Sung in German, with English surtitles proudly sponsored by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation.
