Share understanding and learnings through the art of Songlines
We are calling out to schools to register their interest in participating in a day of in-school workshops led by esteemed teaching artist, songwriter and Barkindji woman Nancy Bates, with the support of teaching artist mentee Katie Aspel - a proud Ngarrindjeri artist from Raukkan who uses her music as her own way of personal story telling.
During these song writing workshops, students will learn about Songlines; a way of creating, sharing, and maintaining knowledge through song and use these Songlines to explore ways to support Reconciliation and understanding of First Nations’ cultures and perspectives.
Throughout the day, Nancy and Katie will work with three classes to write sections of the one song, which will be shared in a group performance of the school’s unique contemporary ‘Songline’ at the end of the day.
