Legendary Textile Tales open Saturday 7 May - Sunday 12 June

Welcome to Children's Artspace: a place for all children, students, and families to come and share ideas and engage in art created by South Australian children.

With a brand-new exhibition for each school term, Children's Artspace provides a safe space for discussions around important issues and big topics facing the kids of today. Artists for the four exhibitions in 2022 have been selected with the assistance of Adelaide Central School of Art from their pool of graduates.

There will also be workshops, interactive experiences, and performances throughout 2022 that accompany the exhibitions.

Children's Artspace is also connecting South Australian children with art experiences all around the world, with online workshops planned with galleries in Hamada, Japan, and New York City, USA. Other galleries and museums around Australia and the world will provide opportunities for fun and engaging learning through play and discovery.

Legendary Textile Tales

Children's Artspace's second exhibition is the stuff of legends! Throughout term 1, textile artist Caitlin Bowe worked with students at Salisbury East High School and Craigmore High School to create a range of tapestries, 3D works and ink drawings. These are all based off of myths and folktales from each student's cultural ancestry, creating a patchwork of stories from around the world.

From Denmark's The Little Mermaid to Pakistan's The Elephant Army and Italy's Lariosauro, cultures from around the world are represented in this exhibition that explores the dark and the light alike in storytelling.

Legendary Textile Tales opens on Saturday 7 May. Come into the gallery, take a trip into history and legend, and create your own loom creation in our workshops Spinning a Yarn!
