Inspired by the Tanabata Festival in Japan, Tanabata: Star Village is an immersive, participatory art experience celebrating the love story of two stars – the princess Orihime and the farmer Hikoboshi.
The experience begins with students gathering around a kamishibai storytelling board to hear the story from a storyteller. After which the students will create origami and kirigami decorations and write wishes on tanzaku cards to hang in the foyer of Dunstan Playhouse on a labyrinth of bamboo woven together with recycled materials. This interactive installation brings hopes, dreams, and the joyous spirit of Tanabata to life.
This venue is wheelchair accessible.
Participants will be required to following instructions from facilitators during the event.
