Throughout July, Adelaide Festival Centre's Moving Image Program is exhibiting 'Wuthering Summits' by Milkorva.
Wuthering Summits, a generative and immersive artwork, presents itself as an ode to the mountain, celebrating its fierce beauty and the rich texture of the landscapes it embodies.
Drawing from a multitude of photographs of snow-covered alpine landscapes, an artificial intelligence gives birth to new horizons and shapes an alternative and imaginary reality.
These visuals then fuel an autonomous system composed of millions of particles, providing both its unpredictable movement and colour. Shadows and light slowly trace the rugged and sharp contours of the rocky peaks, evoking the dark and cold strength of these landscapes.
Nicolas Michel (aka Milkorva) is a visual and new media artist based in Paris, with a master degree in Contemporary & Digital Art from the Sorbonne. He creates generative and immersive installations, focusing on the ever-changing and unpredictable nature of elements.
His works capture the essence of natural phenomena, digitally reinterpreting them in a quest for dialogue between the figurative and the abstract. The artist employs generative algorithms and advanced simulations to create constantly evolving digital ecosystems. His creations, accompanied by rich, audio-reactive soundscapes, invite introspection and question our relationship with reality.
Exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Grand Palais, the Boston Museum of Science, Sonar Istanbul, and Miami Art Basel, his works offer a contemplative experience that is both personal and universal. Through ever-evolving works, mirroring the natural forces that inspire him, Milkorva invites the viewer to rethink their perception of the world.
