Celebrate diversity, inspire creativity, and bring learning to life – one puppet at a time!
Step into a world of imagination with Power of Play AU in this dynamic puppetry workshop designed for primary school students.
Meet a vibrant family of puppets inspired by Sri Lankan culture and traditions – brought to life through stories, music and lots of laughter!
Students will dive into the art of storytelling as they design and create their own paper puppets – developing fine motor skills, cultural awareness, and creative expression along the way.
Designed in accordance with the South Australian curriculum to bring learner agency and wellbeing to the forefront, this hands-on workshop encourages self-expression, collaboration, and a deeper appreciation for intercultural friendships.
Power of Play AU will run up to 2 x 90-minute workshops in each school for up to 30 students per workshop (maximum 60 students total across 2 workshops). Students will watch a short puppet show before learning how to create their own paper puppets.
Successful schools will need to supply:
- A low table and stool for the puppet show
- A free space for kids to sit and watch with a 2-4ft gap between table and first row of audience.
- Tables and chairs for the craft activity
- Free space for a warmup game
Please use the “Apply now” button to complete an expression of interest form for your school group. This is an application – schools will be informed whether they have been selected by the end of Week 9 (T3).
This program is FREE for schools in the Adelaide metropolitan region. Schools that would like to have greater engagement with cultural programs, but have budget limitations that prevent this, are encouraged to apply, including Department for Education IoED Category 1-4 schools and schools with significant populations of Sri Lankan and South Asian students.
