She’s survived prohibition, a pandemic, and now she’s ready to shine her spotlight!
Once regarded as the finest theatre in Australia, back in her Tivoli days, Her Majesty’s Theatre has been reinvigorated, returning her to world-class status – Australia’s most exciting theatre project is now complete!
A stylish fusion of modern architecture, whilst still maintaining the integrity of the original heritage design; the gorgeous proscenium theatre, seating close to 1500 people across three levels, will redefine the audience and artist experience.
The Maj is truly a world class theatre, with state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology, the widest proscenium arch and deepest fly tower of any commercial theatre in Australia, and a rehearsal room the same size as the stage itself. The building has also been designed to allow for greater patron accessibility, bars and amenities on every level, plus stunning views of the Adelaide Hills and city surrounds from the upper levels.
The Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation has been instrumental in raising money to complete the $66m project, which commenced in June 2018, and to purchase the $2m property next-door to the theatre – 62 Grote St. To date, the Foundation has raised more than $4.5m of their $5m target with the final campaign inviting people to purchase a theatre seat plaque dedicated to themselves or a loved one through Her Majesty’s Theatre Buy A Seat Campaign.
