The world’s most iconic love story comes to life in State Opera South Australia's dazzling new production of Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, created and premiered in Adelaide.

Shakespeare’s timeless tale of love, fate, and tragedy is elevated by soaring arias, passionate duets, and a sweeping romantic score.

Star soprano Siobhan Stagg and velvety tenor Kyle Stegall ignite the stage as the legendary lovers, joined by acclaimed baritone Morgan Pearse as Mercutio. Directed by Rodula Gaitanou with designs by Olivier Award-nominated takis, this breathtaking co-production with Irish National Opera and West Australian Opera blends classic storytelling with a bold, fresh vision.

A landmark event for South Australia, this production offers a glimpse into Artistic Director Dane Lam’s vision for State Opera’s 50th Anniversary in 2026. Don’t miss this unforgettable opportunity to experience one of the world’s most beloved stories like never before.
